AidHub SG

Launched a crowdsourcing platform to surface real-time community needs and quickly connect them with offers of aid, to combat the COVID-19 crisis

The COVID-19 lockdown in Singapore revealed critical gaps in resource distribution, particularly for vulnerable communities like migrant workers. While numerous mutual aid initiatives sprang up, they were decentralised and difficult to find, often getting lost in the news cycle.

In an effort to collate and categorise community initiatives, I posted a collaborative list in Climate Media Hub, a community that I founded to drive momentum for climate action. This quickly evolved into a shared document as contributions poured in. A team of volunteers coalesced, offering help with web development, design, communications, and data management.

Under my direction as de facto project lead, we created AidHub SG, a central directory where individuals could either search for resources by category or submit new initiatives for others to find. Our digital infrastructure included a dedicated website and social media channels, featuring 140+ resources across categories tailored to underserved groups such as disabled people, migrant workers, and low-income households.

The project, having served its purpose during the peak of the pandemic, has been archived. You can hear more about the project in my interview on Social Service SG’s podcast “(Episode #01 – COVID19 Community Chronicles) Mutual aid: From spreadsheets to virtual and ground communities”.
